The debut album by Stiff Little Fingers is one of the true punk classics - from the bristling version of "Suspect Device" to the cover of Mike Dread's "Johnny Was." This band always had a feeling for pop songwriting, albeit with a political awareness and sharpness of vision.

Favorites include "Barbed Wire Love" and their single, "Alternative Ulster," with a vocal attack that's somewhere between crooning and screaming. SLF would continue to put out incisive albums, but Inflammable Material is the kind of music that forces you to stay awake and listen.

There's a rich history of Irish punk rock, highlighted mostly by single tracks, but this album is something special.
