I recently put together one of my best playlists ever... 30 songs from the "House Music/Mix Masters/Acid House" era - 1987 to 1995 - out of the over 100 I have of this genre.. one of the most fantastic times in music to be alive - my opinion only - Mardi Gra, Sleaze Balls, Pride, Frisky, Summer Party's - a Dance Party nearly every w/e, and if there wasn't a Dance Party we had all the clubs on Oxford Street, Sydney to fall in and out of. I knew I still had one song missing and wouldn't be satisfied or feel my playlist "BacktomyRoots" was complete without it. This track for me represented the birth of House Music in this style. I had Bomb the Bass, MARRS, Hithouse, Beatmasters/Cookie Crew, Felix Shamen, Technotronic, Coldcut, Helyom Halib, S'Express, Eric B and Rakim, FPI Project, Italo House Mixes/Rococo, Capella, C+C, Snap, D-Mob - you name it I had itl. BUT NOT THE ONE. I started my search In April '12 remembering one of the most recognised lyric of today from this era "You do know how to whistle don't you Steve.. You just put your lips together and blow". being the computer era I simply plugged it into Google and off I went. It turned out I wasn't alone searching for THE ONE. OMG, I found it, let the world know but couldn't get hold of it. UNTIL TODAY 160912. The song - "Check This Out" by La Mix... Les 'Mixdoctor' Adams is a great disc-jockey and producer. This was his hit in 1988. So many amazing samples, rhythms, beats + layers to get lost in. To quote : "This is a journey into sound" Sorry to quote from the song and sample, but I coudn't have said it in any way that would give a exact feeling of the track. Yes there were heaps of copy cats but who cared - they were all fabulous in their own right and had a place to take in musical history. They kept on coming and we kept on dancing and I still am... nearly 25 years on I will never ever get tired, bored or over listening to "Check This Out".... and Yes.. I do know how to whistle. If you don't know it - then I suggest you do exactly as the title says and "Check This Out" you will be blown away and hopefully start your own playlist. My playlist is on repeat nearly every day... all day...
